‘Sail away from the safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover’ – Mark Twain
Dan is a lad (not unlike the author’s son) who loves to hear his Grandpa’s stories, especially the one about the Blue Whale, larger than the dinosaurs. He longs for adventure and sets sail in his little boat using the stars as his guide. He sees flying fish, a giant turtle, a dolphin, an albatross, a shark, and by the sixth day of his adventure he encounters a great storm that tossed the waves dangerously. But on the seventh day of his adventure the storms subside and despite the damage to his little craft, he sees the unbelievable – the Blue Whale! The Blue Whale does fantastic swimming tricks and when the whale sees Dan’s little boat so damaged he lifts Dan out of the water with his head and in that manner the Blue Whale takes Dan home – and Dan is eager to tell his Grandpa about HIS adventure with the Blue Whale!
At the end of the story Alexander offers information about whales and encourages young readers to set sail on their own adventure in search of the Blue Whale. This is a fine, warm, reassuring book that is full of love of a father for his son – a gift that hopefully many will share, a beautiful gift.

Beautifully Crafted Symphony For Children
“Climb aboard and drift slowly from the shore. Sail away across the starlit sky and search for where the Blue Whale leaps.”
Children love pretending and making up adventures and their dreams are filled with imaginary experiences making childhood creatively fun. Little Dan is no exception as he loves the stories his grandpa tells of his times at sea, especially the story of seeing the largest animal in all the world, a Blue Whale. Dan longs to see a Blue Whale so he sets off on a sailboat bouncing on the ocean waves for his own grand escapade and a Blue Whale to see.
Inspired by the children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are”, a book where dreams are made, Alexander outstandingly composes a beautiful symphony upon paper with a delightfully entertaining tale matched with brilliant illustrations that is sure to warm the heart of any young child. Children will be captivated and inspired setting off imaginative nighttime dreams of their own. As an adult I even felt like a child again as I entered the magnificent world of Dan and the Blue Whale. Highly recommend for a night-time filled with fantasy dreams for children and adults alike.

Excitement, Adventure, Danger, and Wonder in a Charning Tale for Children
Alexander McCarthy has woven together an exciting tale that rivets both the imagination and attention of children. Vivid descriptions and stunning illustrations make it easy for children to be captivated and engrossed in this charming tale. The story features the perfect blend of excitement, danger, wonder, and adventure.
Here, an adventurous lad sets sail across the ocean in hopes of finding the whale from his Grandfather’s legendary tales. Along the way he meets a myriad of creatures both large and small. But will he find the whale?
My kids hung on to the edge of their seats as the little explorer encounters a serious storm and is thrown high into the air, and worried along with him as the little sailboat sprung a leak after sustaining damage from the storm.
Just when the danger is about to overwhelm Dan, the main character, he makes a new friend in the Blue Whale.
Alexander’s passion for wildlife shines through in this story as children are introduced to sea turtles, flying fish, sharks, dolphins, and more! A great read that my almost 4 and 3 year old loved!

Great bedtime journey
My little 2 year nephew likes sea animals, so when I saw this book, of course, that evening we were reading it before going to bed. I really love this book, and so does my nephew. He likes the illustrations, which are very colourful, vivid and beautiful. Pictures bring life to this storyline. The story is simple but inspiring, has it’s own charm and is easy to read. Main character is a little boy Dan, who heard interesting stories from his grandfather about the Blue Whale and he wants to see it. In this book we can meet a lot of different sea creatures. Of course our favourite is the Blue Whale. Also there is a good message here. It teaches us never to stop dreaming. Nice story for little dreamers and a good book for our collection.

A Magical Journey to the Ocean of our Blue Planet Earth
In Search of the Blue Whale is a fascinating children’s book containing the most wonderful drawings of the ocean world. It evokes within the children’s fantasy the mystery of the deep blue ocean in the vast horizon of the Earth’s waters.
Enchanted by his Grandpa’s stories about the mysterious biggest animal ever seen, Dan aims for adventure and decides to sail out at night in the Blue Whale’s quest. After many days of wonders and dangers in his tiny boat, a delightful surprise awaits small Dan, celebrating the marine life and reinforcing the friendship value in the natural world.
Alexander McCarthy succeeds to express pure feelings of childhood in a pedagogically clean environment that encourages children to protect the waters on Earth. The Blue Whale is the apex of the narrative, stimulating for the child a positive impression towards different animal beings and foremost the joy of discovering all life forms on the planet. Children will find magic in this short book both on reading and listening to the parents’ voice; ideal for bedtime stories.
The amazing tones of blue in its illustrations will attract every reader – adult and children – to join small Dan in his adventure in search of the blue whale!

Breathtakingly beautiful
What a wonderful book. For anyone who loves books with beautiful illustrations, this is a must. This is a labour of love, from an author who wanted to write a picture book for his son while at the same time share his love of nature with others. It’s a short book, but just the right length for a bedtime story before the little one goes to sleep. I’m not entirely sure if my son or myself enjoyed the drawings the most. I strongly recommend reading it on an ipad where you can zoom in to the drawing and see the wonderful colours and details it has. I so wish I could find more books of this quality for such a low price.
